  • Pre-ride preparation

  • Bike set-up and position

  • Gear selection

  • Correct braking

  • Climbing

  • Descending

  • Cornering

  • Obstacles & Drop-offs (less than 1/2 metre high)

These course take place at Rivington (near Bolton) and normally start at 10:00am and finish around 4:00pm.  Cost for the Beginners course is £60.00

Intermediate Skills Course

These courses are aimed at those who have already completed the beginners course or riders with a few years experience who want to progress to the next level. Following this course, riders should be able to tackle tougher more technical mtb routes including many of those found abroad. The intermediate course expands on the beginners course by covering, amongst others, the following skills:

  • Advanced cornering

  • Technical descents

  • Jumping

  • Larger drop-offs (up to 1 metre high)

  • Line selection

  • Track stands

  • Manuals

  • Rocky terrain

Like the beginners courses, the intermediate courses are also full day events based in Rivington, though are run over a different more demanding route. The courses start at 10:00am and finish around 4:00pm.  Cost for the Intermediate course is £60.00

Advanced Skills Course

The advanced skills courses are aimed at competent and confident bike riders with a few years of experience or thoughs who have at least completed our intermediates course.  These courses are more trail centre oriented and will have a large emphasis on descending and technical riding.  The course will expand on the intermediates course by including the following tuition:

  • Advanced line selection

  • Steep technical descents

  • Riding berms

  • Larger drop-offs (up to 1 1/2 metres high)

  • Technical single track

  • Steep technical climbing

  • Tips to improve speed

  • Refining braking techniques

It is often easier to see where you need to improve and where you are going wrong if you could watch yourself riding.  That's why on our advanced skills courses we also include video analysis to better improve your riding.  These courses are run from the Coed Llandegla mountain bike centre in North Wales.  Courses start at 10:00am and finish at approximately 4:00pm.  Cost of the Advanced course is £85.00

*Though all of our courses are broken down into smaller sections to allow tuition and practical experience, a minimum level of fitness is required to complete these courses.  As a guideline Revolution Cycling recommends you should be able to complete two 30 min rides per week for the beginners course and be able to ride longer sustained climbs of upto 20mins without stopping for the intermediate and advanced courses.  Please ensure you have read the terms and conditions (see disclaimer page) carefully prior to booking onto any of our courses.

Recommended Kit

When attending our courses all participants must ensure their bike is in safe working condition before turning up (see pre-ride checklist on Bookings page).  Additionally, it is recommended that front suspension forks are used for the intermediate and advanced courses, as this will make the riding easier and more enjoyable.  Riders must wear helmet and gloves at all times.  In addition to these we also recommend that you wear some form of cycling glasses to stop mud getting in your eyes.  As the ride will last several hours, we also strongly advise you to bring fluids (water, energy drinks etc) to carry on the bike and something to eat as we will be stopping for lunch (hot food is available to buy at all venues, though lunch will be eaten out on the course during the advanced courses). You will also need to bring a spare inner tube and repair kit.

Please check the weather forecast prior to turning out in order to determine what to wear/bring. A water/windproof jacket is recommended as the weather can be changeable in the hills.
